Escape to Bay View Villas
Richard Morais, Hospitality Jamaica Writer
Overlooking the ocean with two exceedingly pure springs, together
with a plateau of herbs and spices, the Bay View Villas on the outskirts
of Port Antonio could be regarded as the closest thing to the Garden
of Eden.
Nestled on what was originally 30 acres of coconut farm, the villa
is the alternative to the Port Antonio experience. The property
is now under redevelopment but, when completed, it will be expanded
from its present 28 to 40 rooms. It also includes a superb convention
centre among other facilities, which is ideal for everyone, especially
small groups.
The property is seen as one of the green holistic villas as much
of what is consumed there comes from the property. This has been
expanded as a plateau and is being planted with Jamaican herbs and
spices.
The concept will be to bring in some of the alternative medical
practitioners along with some of the older herbalists who have tried
and tested some of Jamaica's indigenous brews which will be available.
In all of this back-to-nature simplistic, holistic concept, however,
the sophistication of a hotel is not lost in its decor. One of the
eye- poppers is the bamboo floor in the rooms, which gives a unique
wooden-floor palatial look.
The villa is operated by principals of the internationally renowned
Caribic Vacations Tour Company, known for its scenic five- and seven-day
tours of the island.
