Astley Gordon - the no-nonsense Palladium security officer
Five years ago, Astley Gordon joined the security team at the Grand Palladium with a zest to professionally carry out his duties. Today, his fire and determination still burn as if it were still day one.
Gordon, who spent some time in London working the banking sector in the 1990s, initially wanted to become a member of the police force. However, when that aspiration fell through, he said he made the move to join a profession that was security-based.
"When I joined the Grand Palladium staff in 2008, my intentions were clear: to serve with the highest level of professionalism and to ensure that the company's employees and assets were protected. Today, that determination remains as the company has grown and expanded, employing more people and catering to a wider group of guests. This makes the job more demanding, but also very interesting."
Gordon, who hails from Sandy Bay in Hanover, attended the Middlesex Primary School before completing his high school education at Rusea's. He is the proud father of two children - ages three and 13 years old. He also has four brothers and five sisters.
He views the job of a security officer as "a very serious one. One in which people, especially those who are from overseas, look to you for guidance and a very high level of protection. I endeavour to carry out my duties with the highest level of professionalism and respect for all. Even those who may have done something wrong, I extend the highest level of courtesies to them."
According to Gordon, his tenure at the Grand Palladium over the past five years has taught him lifelong lessons. "I have learnt a lot since being here. My customer service skills have improved, my interpersonal skills have also improved and I am now more confident in my surveillance skills and my attention to details."
In the future, Astley Gordon hopes to move up the ranks in the security department at the Grand Palladium and use his years of experience to guide his colleagues.
