Wholehearted congratulations
The positive engagement of our people to take advantage of the
many opportunities that the world presents is certainly the greatest
challenge we face today in Jamaica, as there is no secret that we
are blessed with talent and ingenuity waiting to be properly employed
in innovative and productive exploits. Matching those two elements,
however, remains the most elusive of our solutions that only few
among us have truly learned to harness. The Western Hospitality
Institute (WHI) has made great strides in bridging this gap, and
for this it must be recognised.
The brainchild of its president, Cecil Cornwall, a proud son of
the soil, the Western Hospitality Institute champions the hope of
many thousands of young Jamaicans who, with only a spark in their
belly, the school welcomed to its campuses and ignited a fire for
the hospitality industry that has kept many hotels, attractions
and restaurants supplied with a stream of educated and exposed Jamaicans
for which we all are very proud.
respect
Not constrained by limited square footage or resources, WHI partners
with some of the most prestigious universities and colleges across
the United States and Canada and has, over these last 20 years,
developed the respect of many in the fields of tourism and academia,
both in Jamaica and overseas. The countless number of graduates
who may only have had dreams of a diploma were so inspired, encouraged
and facilitated by WHI to go on to their bachelor's, master's and
even doctorates in their fields of study. This positive reinforcement
of values is cheered by this proud industry daily.
The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association wholeheartedly congratulates
the Western Hospitality Institute, which we consider to be an integral
partner in our country's tourism development on its 20th anniversary
and commit our diverse association to continuing to work with you
through your next 20 years.
