Propelling Jamaica to higher growth
The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Annual Trade Show has become a highly anticipated event on the calendar of businesses and individuals alike. It presents an ideal opportunity to showcase what is best about Jamaica - quality and highly innovative goods and services.
The trade show is consistent with the Government's drive to strengthen business activity and stimulate entrepreneurship and investments. It is imperative that we take proactive steps such as the staging of this trade show and other activities, as we must recognise that we cannot just sit by and expect investments to fall in our laps. We must actively go about seeking to attract these large-scale investments; and let the world know that Jamaica is 'open for business' and serious about investment.
Investment is the foundation upon which economic success will be built, as there will be spiralling spin-offs and linkages that will propel our country forward. Our local businesses must be urged to widen their scope of operation and expand their vision, to embrace the seamless boundaries and limitless opportunities that abound in the global marketplace. It is with this in mind that the Government will continue to embark on a massive and aggressive overseas marketing programme, seeking to further promote Brand Jamaica, and geared at placing Jamaica on the front line, in order to attract investors.
The Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a critical partner in this process; and I want to commend the organisation for its consistent role in nation building. I urge the organisation to continue to be unwavering in its mandate, despite the challenges which prevail on the local and international landscapes.
I am confident that this year's trade show will exceed expectations and yield tremendous success.
