Innovativeness to amaze the world
I wholeheartedly welcome the staging of the 14th annual trade show by the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The theme for this year's show reinforces an important aspect of the country's vision 2030 for Jamaica to be a place of choice to work, do business and raise families. We all must admit that this is the future with which we yearn to furnish the next generation.
However, in order to achieve this status, the world must be able to see and experience the talents, innovativeness and skills existing in the region. This is the perfect forum to showcase these skills and talents. I totally embrace the concept that it is this sense of innovativeness and ultimate dedication that will eventually propel us to achieve this dream. Holding firmly to this view, I therefore endorse the theme for 'Expo 2011 - Unleashing innovation.'
As a nation, we boast an ocean of the most innovative minds existing in the world. Anyone who would challenge that statement just needs to take a look at some of the negative ways in which we utilise our innovative skills. It is my firm opinion that our innovativeness, properly channelled, will amaze the world. However, it must be understood that, in order for these innovations to be unleashed, there must be a willingness to take risks - the risk of creative thinking, the risk of daring to do what no one else had done before and, finally , the risk of believing that under God the innovative boundaries are, indeed, unfathomable.
Guided by this inspiring theme, this year's expo is expected to exceed the others in all aspects. It is, therefore, very appropriate for us to unleash these innovations right here in Montego Bay, our tourism capital. This will benefit the individuals, the groups, the parish, the nation and the world.
